Dans ce nouveau duo fascinant, Egoyan associe le piano à un logiciel qui simule le comportement de l’instrument acoustique, ce qui lui permet d’ombrer le piano physique avec un piano virtuel qui augmente et élargit sa capacité sonore et expressive de manières inédites. Pauly utilise plusieurs échantillonneurs conçus pour différents modes de captation et de manipulation en direct de sons amplifiés (surfaces de résonance, cordes, etc.) et de ceux des pianos d’Egoyan, qui sont ensuite traités en temps réel à l’aide d’une collection. Il en résulte une musique spontanée et viscérale qui demeure d’une ambiguïté rafraîchissante en termes de genre musical.

In this fascinating new duo, Egoyan couples the piano with software that models the behaviour of the acoustic instrument, allowing her to shadow the physical piano with a virtual piano that augments and extends its sonic and expressive range in newly imagined ways. Pauly performs using multiple samplers tuned for different modes of live capture and manipulation of his own amplified sounds (resonant surfaces, strings, etc.) and of Egoyan’s pianos, that are then processed live through a collection of effect. This results in spontaneous and visceral music hat remain refreshingly ambiguous in genre.
