Eve Egoyan / biography
 

    Eve Egoyan fell in love with the piano at a very young age, visiting her neighbour dailyto learn whatever she could about the instrument. Ever since those first moments,playing the piano has been a passion and an adventure. Eve began studying traditionalrepertoire in Victoria, B.C., Canada, her hometown, then Berlin, Germany (DAADscholarship) and London, England (Commonwealth Scholarship). In 1989 she cameto Toronto to study and eventually settle. Here, she re-connected with a community ofcomposers she had studied with in Victoria. Through playing their works, she becamepassionate about playing music of her own time, connecting to its freshness, itsdirect invention at the modern piano, and the clarity of playing music by living composers,dealing with a living score. Her reputation as a performer has earned her adedicated audience who trust her considered programming and ability to communicatesome of the most extraordinary musical voices of her time. Many composershave written works for her, including John Abram, Martin Arnold, Allison Cameron,Alvin Curran, Maria de Alvear, José Evangelista, Michael Finnissy, Mamoru Fujieda, Anthony Genge, Rudolf Komorous, Jo Kondo, Michael Longton, Juliet Palmer,Stephen Parkinson, James Rolfe, John Sherlock, Linda C. Smith, Ann Southam,Karen Tanaka and James Tenney. She has appeared as a soloist in numerous internationalfestivals including Other Minds, San Francisco; Pacific Rim, Santa Cruz;Musicora, Paris; and the Kobe International Modern Music Festival, Japan; on manyCanadian and international concert series, and with the Toronto Symphony and CBCVancouverSymphony Orchestras. Eve was the Executive Producer of her discs "thethingsinbetween" (new works for piano) and "Hidden Corners (Recoins)", worksby Erik Satie. Her artistic path continues to expand as she explores composition,sound installation, and improvisation in collaboration with other artists.
